9/11: My memories...and whats goin on...

So, its been about a month and a half since I have made an update to my blog. Seems lots of changes have been occurring around work for sure. I'll get to that in a bit.

As I woke up this morning, I turned on the television and watched a replay of the 9/11/01 events on MSNBC and could not help but feel lucky as an American and my freedoms today. Granted airline travel and security as a whole are tighter managed and come with certain common annoyances...I feel as if we are definitely safer today than 5 years ago. In the least, better in tune with the potential outbreak of terrorism. I remembered exactly where I was on 9/11/01...and remember how it was first reported on Oklahoma City radio about a plane flying into the World Trade Center. I was driving down Interstate 35 south bound into work at about 8:15am. Having been a private pilot and hearing about a aircraft accidentally flying into the World Trade Center did not even seem possible.

As the events unfolded on that day, I realized the magnitude and scale of what was occurring. As I sat at my desk and listened to CNN reports about people rushing to get gas at $5+ a gallon for a short time...and knowing financial markets were shut down...I wondered to myself if things were ever going to be the same. Watching outside my window at work and after the FAA declared to ground all US flights...you could see plane after plane landing at a normally non-busy time in OKC. Watching the level headed Tom Brokaw on TV report in real-time on the second World Trade Center falling down...and him saying "There are no words to describe this" and asking for all viewers to "just listen and watch". And watch I did...watched and listened to the second World Trade Center Tower rumble and fall to the ground. It was surreal. A sticking and lasting memory which will never be forgotten by me or any of my family. A story of stories which will be told for generations. Thank goodness for our resolve and determination to not be defeated by terrorism. I am thankful and humbled to be an American today.

God Bless,

Carl (The Water Buffalo)
